Strong Irish Team Defeats Malta

Three Footwork players represented Malta in the European Championship Qualifying Group Division B fixture against Ireland. The game was played at the University Sports Hall on Saturday.
This is the first time that so many Footwork players were selected for National Team duty and this reflects the progress our senior team has shown in previous years. The players selected were Addison Bonnici, Anthony Huizer and Chris Sammut while a fourth Jean Paul Bonnici, who turned sixteen last week was selected but could not play because his FIBA registration wasn't submitted in time.
Chris Sammut ended the game with the second highest point total for Malta which struggled against a powerful Irish team. The guests featured two ex-NBA players and most of the team play top level basketball in Spain and Italy.
Tonight Malta faces the Slovak Republic in another tough encounter .
